Thank you for this most useful reference!  I have the accounts of all 7
Ecumenical Councils, and the entire Edinburgh edition of the Ante-Nicene
fathers, but to have such material online is a boon!

You are of course quite right.  The Church(es) never decided anything
about reincarnation, and do not appear even to have discussed it, only
the notion of the pre-existence of souls, as you emphasize.

If you get the chance, you may find a study of the Early Syrian fathers
of more than passing interest, and at a slightly later date, Theodore of
Mopsuestia, who was anathematised about 120 years after his death!
