I've always had a sneaking suspicion that it related more to the drug of
choice used by the participants (hashish by Sinnet, laudanum by Kingsford)
than any serious philosophical dispute. On the other hand, there was the
rather embarrassing statement by Kingsford that she was going to use psychic
stuff to kill Louis Pasteur and the press got a hold of it. That might have
set Sinnet off.
