What you say about an cubic inch of water flowing down the river,
influencing other cubic inches of water flowing down the same river, and
also influencing the banks, rings a bell in my memory about how chaos theory
works. Some of the phenomena seem random, but they're interrelated and
influence each other, and sometimes the randomness seems to follow a fluid
pattern.
