Alan, Yes. He became quite the object of ridicule in this country in the 1920's. There was even a famous editorial cartoon of Dr. Coues in his frock coat with his head firmly stuck in the clouds, saying "Day by day I'm getting dryer and dryer" while underneath the bootleggers were carrying out their business.
